Qualifications needed

What Qualifications Are Required To Go On Hair Dressing Courses?

If you are considering becoming a hairdresser, you will need to complete a training course before you look for jobs. If you lack hairdressing experience, this is not a barrier to your success. There are hair dressing courses to suit all levels of experience, from NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing courses for beginners to continuing professional development courses for experienced hairdressers.

NVQ Level 2
If you have no hairdressing experience and no qualifications, you can enrol on a beginner’s hairdressing course, which is otherwise known as an NVQ Level 2 in Hairdressing. This course will introduce you to basic hairdressing skills through a combination of both practical and theoretical work. You will learn about every aspect of hairdressing, from shampooing and conditioning hair to basic cutting and colouring, customer service skills and health and safety laws. Class sizes are usually small to help you to receive the personal tuition that you require. Anyone of any age can take an NVQ 2 in Hairdressing. While your age and experience may be irrelevant, you will need an abundance of enthusiasm and an interested in hairdressing to successfully complete the course. Once you have completed your NVQ 2, you can go on to find a job in a hair salon, open your own hair salon or work as a self-employed hairstylist. If, however, you would like to advance your skills, you can enrol on an NVQ Level 3 or a professional development course.

NVQ Level 3Once you have gained your NVQ Level 2, you can enrol on an NVQ Level 3 in Hairdressing course. This course will be a step up from your NVQ Level 2 work and will teach you more advanced techniques, enabling you to take your hairdressing to a higher level. You will learn advanced colouring and cutting, advanced basic and creative hair-up techniques, advanced colour correction, advanced men’s hair and more. As with your Level 2 work, your class sizes will usually be small to ensure that you receive the correct amount of individual training. Once you have completed your NVQ 3, you can find a job in a hair salon, open your own hair salon or work as a self-employed hairstylist.

Professional Development
Once you have qualified with an NVQ 2 or 3, you will be able to enrol on professional development courses that will help you to improve your confidence and update your skills. Professional development hair dressing courses tend to cover the latest fashion cutting and colouring techniques. You can take these courses whether you have been working in the hairdressing industry for a few months or for several decades.

STILL KEEPING TO YOUR NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS?

So how are your New Year Resolutions going?   Are you still sticking to that strict diet, madly cutting calories and trying to exist on fat-free yoghurt and diet shakes?

Yes?!

Well please spare a thought for your hair. Healthy hair comes with a healthy body and a really good diet is so important when it comes to looking after your hair.

Like any other part of your body, your hair requires the right balance of nutrients and vitamins and anything that upsets that balance will eventually affect the look and  health of your hair.

Crash dieting is definitely bad news! It interferes with the hair cycle by affecting the supply of vitamins and minerals that we need to function properly.

Reducing the amount you eat to lose excess pounds is one thing, but any drastic change in your diet that restricts your input of crucial vitamins and nutrient will definitely give you bad hair days.

So don’t beat yourself up about trying to lose weight! Take dieting slowly, try and lose a couple of pounds a week and do allow yourself a little treat occasionally. Your hair and body will say a huge thank you!

Finally, ring up your stylist and book in for a treatment and a trim.  A deep, moisturizing treatment will leave you with gorgeous, shiny, conditioned hair and a trim will get rid of dry split-ends.

And don’t forget, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Dull, dry, lifeless hair is definitely a romance killer! So, start looking after your hair right now and by February 14th your hair will be your crowning glory.

For a fantastic 2013 eat healthily, be kind to your hair and make you hair stylist your very best friend!!
